Formation: Round Island Lighthouse Preservation Society was formed in 2009 as a non-profit organization to help aid the preservation and restoration efforts at historic Round Island Lighthouse. We also assist with the Annual Open House at the Lighthouse.
Members of the Board: These five members of the society make up the board of directors and have one thing in common. Each of them in their life have been associated with Freeland Boy Scout Troop 323. Matt McMullen, the society's Chairperson, is an Assistant Scoutmaster and an Eagle Scout. Nathan Neuenfeldt the societies vice president was a member of Troop 323 and is also an Eagle Scout. Scott Sugar , Society Chairman, was a member of troop 323. Pat Eckenstahler is the society's secretary. Pat and her husband, Chuck Eckenstahler, won a trip with the Freeland Boy Scouts at a fundraiser in Alpena in 1995. This allowed them to help the scouts with their annual cleaning trip of the lighthouse the following summer. Dave Mack a Society Board member was a assistant scout master for troop 323. It should be noted that both Dave and Matt share the privilege of being continuously active in efforts to restore Round Island since 1995.
